Primus offers free Internet phone calls and trial for thousands of Victorians

Primus Telecom, which introduced low cost international calling and award-winning dial-up Internet services to Australian consumers, now plans to offer thousands of Victorians the chance to make free calls and experience the latest in telephone technology with the Primus Internet Phone free trial.

From today, people can experience for themselves how this innovative service can change their calling habits and dramatically slash call costs.

A free version of the Primus Internet Phone software can be downloaded by visiting: www.primus.com.au/internetphone

The offer is also available through The Age, today, with a free included headset and CD that can be picked up from local newsagents.

The Primus Internet Phone trial provides two weeks of free use with up to four hours of total talk time. Calls can be made to anywhere in Australia (apart from special service and mobile numbers) and to the 15 most-called countries.

The Primus Internet Phone uses a broadband connection to turn your computer into a telephone that's able to call phones anywhere in the world. It uses the latest in Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) technology to deliver incredible savings on call costs.

It’s easy to get set up with the Primus Internet Phone – all that’s needed is a broadband connection, a compatible PC and a headset. The ease of installation and use of the product has been designed for individuals and families who may have no detailed computer knowledge.

The free trial will give users the chance to experience Primus’s residential Internet phone product, TalkBroadband.

Primus Telecom Managing Director, Greg Wilson, says the trial is a chance to experience first hand a new way of communicating with friends and family.

“We’re so confident that Internet telephony will lower people’s phone bills that we’re prepared to give a free trial to experience it first hand,” he said.

At the end of the trial, customers may choose a Primus TalkBroadband plan to get permanent savings on their phone bill.

There are two ways to use TalkBroadband – with the headset connected to your computer of choice, or with the pocket-sized adapter, which connects your handset to your broadband connection and works just like a normal phone.

With TalkBroadband, untimed local and long distance calls to fixed phones anywhere in Australia cost just 10 cents with a monthly plan fee. Calls to other TalkBroadband customers are free.

Some of the biggest savings are on international calls with call rates to the top 15 destinations from 2.7 cents a minute.

Besides offering inexpensive calls, TalkBroadand will bundle several powerful and unique features, such as Calling Number Display, Call Forward, Call Return, Call Waiting, Last Number Redial and Calling Line ID (CLI) Blocking, as part of the service package – at no extra charge.

Primus Telecom is Australia’s fourth largest fixed line telephone company and an award winning Internet provider. It’s the first of the major carriers to offer a residential Internet telephone service, based on its highly successful Lingo service in the United States and TalkBroadband service in Canada.

“There’s no reason why phone bills have to be so expensive,” Wilson said.

TalkBroadband doesn’t just trim your phone bill, it can totally transform the way you use and pay for the household phone.

“We want to give as many people as possible the chance to see how they can make big savings on their telephone bills – while having the peace of mind that comes with a leading telephone company,” he said.
